Our Direct Staff
Bob Smith, Jr.
A third generation Funeral Director, Bob joined the family business as a Licensed Funeral Director in 1980. He has a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Kansas and an MBA from the Kellstadt Graduate School of Business at DePaul University. Active in his profession and community affairs, Bob is a member of the Northeastern Illinois Funeral Directors Association, board member for the Selected Independent Funeral Homes, member of the Knights of Columbus, Sauganash, Palatine, and Glenview Chambers of Commerce. Bob resides in Glenview with his wife, Mary.
Licensed Funeral Director
Jay is the fourth generation of the Smith family to be a licensed funeral director. He joined the family business after graduating from the University of Notre Dame in 2009. He then attended Worsham College of Mortuary Science. Jay also graduated with his MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business in 2017.
Jay was raised in Palatine where he attended St. Theresa Catholic School before heading on to Loyola Academy for high school and moving to Glenview. Jay is very active in many community organization including being on the board of the the University of Notre Dame Club of Chicago and Scholarship Foundation, President of SSA #62 in Sauganash, Knights of Columbus Holy Ghost Council, and Past President of the Northeastern Illinois Funeral Directors Association.
Kelly Smith, Esq.
Kelly is the fourth generation of the Smith family to help the community during their time of loss. She is a graduate of the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign where she also earned her J.D. Prior to joining the funeral home, Kelly worked in higher education with the admissions staff at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business and the office of Graduate and International Legal Studies University of Illinois College of Law. She brings a wide range of knowledge, expertise, and compassion to the Smith-Corcoran Family.
Kelly grew up in Palatine, attending St. Theresa Catholic School before moving to Glenview and going to Loyola Academy. At Loyola, Kelly excelled in track and cross country. She continued to run in college as part of the U of I track and cross country teams. Kelly is still an active runner and has completed five marathons, including the Chicago marathon twice, and is looking forward to many more.
Dana is a native of Emden. She is a graduate of the Worsham College of Mortuary Science and has been a member of the Smith-Corcoran family since the early 1990s. Dana has two children, Jimmy and Cairlyn.
Administrative and Operations Assistant Director
Jean is a native of Milwaukee, Wisconsin where she earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Marquette University. Jean brings to Smith-Corcoran a diverse background of office management and executive administrative experience from the areas of non-profit, for-profit, education, and government sectors. Jean volunteers at several organizations and enjoys hiking, reading, cross-stitching, and spending time with her adopted pets. She has one son who manages an office in mortgage services.
Phyllis has worked with families to make pre-arrangements for the past 30 years. Phyllis is an Ohio native and earned both her Bachelors and Masters degrees in communication from Ohio University.
Phyllis and her husband Paul are empty nesters with three grown sons and one grandson. They share their home with their 76 pound Bernadoodle. Phyllis is an avid reader and walker. She participates annually in the Susan G. Komen, 60 mile, 3 day walk to end breast cancer.
Linda joined us in 2016 and comes with a background of organizational management skills from the corporate world to a liturgical background as Associate Director of Liturgy and Director of Pastoral Care for the Archdiocese of Chicago. Linda is active in community organizations as well as serving on the Board of the McLaughlin Faith Foundation which fosters and inspires the Faith journey of teens and young adults through creative and innovative approaches to their faith formation. She has 3 married children and six grandchildren.
Our Funeral Associates
Jacqueline was born and raised in Palos Heights. She was a graduate of Illinois State University, studying Community Health Education prior to attending Worsham College of Mortuary Science in 2016. Jacqueline and her family are largely involved in Misericordia, being active members in Tag Days, Family days, and miscellaneous events through out the year.
Kate grew up on the south suburbs of Chicago where she attended Marist high school. Kate graduated with an associates degree in Business from Moraine Valley Community College then continued her education at Worsham College in 2017. Kate and her family are parishioners at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in Oak Lawn. She has been a competitive equestrian for several years and enjoys spending time with her family and pets.

Karen Knowland has served as a Funeral Director at Smith-Corcoran Funeral Homes since 2002.
Karen lives in Palatine, IL, and graduated from St. Viator High School in Arlington Heights before attending Worsham College of Mortuary Science.
She and her husband Matt are proud parents of their English bulldog, Sophie.
