Our Direct Staff
Bob Smith, Jr.
A third generation Funeral Director, Bob joined the family business as a Licensed Funeral Director in 1980. He has a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Kansas and an MBA from the Kellstadt Graduate School of Business at DePaul University. Active in his profession and community affairs, Bob is a member of the Northeastern Illinois Funeral Directors Association, board member for the Selected Independent Funeral Homes, member of the Knights of Columbus, Sauganash, Palatine, and Glenview Chambers of Commerce. Bob resides in Glenview with his wife, Mary.
Licensed Funeral Director
Jay is the fourth generation of the Smith family to be a licensed funeral director. He joined the family business after graduating from the University of Notre Dame in 2009. He then attended Worsham College of Mortuary Science. Jay also graduated with his MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business in 2017.
Jay was raised in Palatine where he attended St. Theresa Catholic School before heading on to Loyola Academy for high school and moving to Glenview. Jay is very active in many community organization including being on the board of the the University of Notre Dame Club of Chicago and Scholarship Foundation, President of SSA #62 in Sauganash, Knights of Columbus Holy Ghost Council, and President of the Northeastern Illinois Funeral Directors Association.
Kelly Smith, Esq.
Kelly is the fourth generation of the Smith family to help the community during their time of loss. She is a graduate of the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign where she also earned her J.D. Kelly also currently works with the admissions staff at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. She brings a wide range of knowledge, expertise, and compassion to the Smith-Corcoran Family.
Kelly grew up in Palatine, attending St. Theresa Catholic School before moving to Glenview and going to Loyola Academy. At Loyola, Kelly excelled in track and cross country. She continued to run is college as part of the U of I track and cross country teams. Kelly is still an active runner and has completed the Chicago marathon twice and is looking forward to many more.
Dana is a native of Emden. She is a graduate of the Worsham College of Mortuary Science and has been a member of the Smith-Corcoran family since the early 1990s. Dana has two children, Jimmy and Cairlyn.

Licensed Funeral Director
Sandra hails from Spring Valley, MN. She is a graduate of the Worsham College of Mortuary Science and has been a member of the Smith-Corcoran family since the early 1990s. Sandra is a member of the National Funeral Directors Association, Illinois Funeral Directors Association, Ohio Funeral Directors Association, and the New Jersey Funeral Directors Association. She has two children, Michael and Elizabeth.
Licensed Funeral Director and Embalmer
Dan Giese serves as a Licensed Funeral Director and Embalmer at Smith-Corcoran Funeral Homes. Born in Wisconsin and raised in Northern Illinois, Dan graduated from Belvidere High School before earning his Associates Degree from Rock Valley College.
He dedicated several years to social service before pursing a degree from Worsham College of Mortuary Science in 2010.
In 2011, Dan became a Licensed Funeral Director and worked for several years at another firm before joining the Smith family in 2014.
Dan feels privileged to serve our community and is proud to carry on the Smith family tradition. In his spare time, he enjoys golfing, woodworking and being among family and friends.

Karen Knowland has served as a Funeral Director at Smith-Corcoran Funeral Homes for 13 years.
Karen lives in Palatine, IL, and graduated from St. Viator High School in Arlington Heights before attending Worsham College of Mortuary Science.
She and her husband Matt are proud parents of their English bulldog, Lulu.
