Bob Smith, Jr. - Owner
Bob Smith Jr., a third generation funeral director, joined the family business in 1980. Bob earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Kansas, a MBA from DePaul University and spent several years in the U.S. Army. Prior to entering funeral service, Bob worked in the banking and insurance industries. Bob has been very active in both funeral service and community organizations having been a board member for Selected Independent Funeral Homes, the Northeastern Illinois Funeral Directors Association the Palatine and Sauganash Chambers of Commerce. In the community Bob is a member of the Knights of Columbus, Sauganash, Palatine, and Glenview chambers of commerce along with having been on the St. Theresa finance committee. Currently Bob lives in Glenview with his wife Mary. |
Jay Smith is the fourth generation of the Smith family to join the business. He was born in Chicago and raised in Palatine, where he graduated from St. Theresa Catholic School. His mother, Mary Smith, is a long time reading teacher at St. Theresa as well. Jay then attended Loyola Academy and graduated in 2005 having played football, 2003 Chicago Prep Bowl Champions, and lettered on the track and field team. He went on to the University of Notre Dame graduating in 2009. Jay continues to be involved with the Notre Dame community serving as the Young Alumni Representative as well as a board member on the Notre Dame Club of Chicago. Jay became a licensed funeral director in 2011 after graduating from Worsham College of Mortuary Science. Jay is also a member of OLPH Church and a regular at Men's Club basketball. Currently, Jay lives in the Wrigleyville neighborhood of Chicago where he enjoys time with his friends, cheering on the Cubs, and all things Notre Dame. |
Dana Riess - Office Manager
Dana Riess is originally from Emden, Illinois. She moved to Chicago to attend Worsham College of Mortuary Science. Dana has worked with the Smith family since the early 1990s and continues to enjoy helping families during their time of need. Dana lives on the Northwest side of Chicago and is the proud parent of Jimmy and Cairlyn. In her spare time you can find Dana on the golf course. |
Sandra Antablin - Director
Sandra Antablian is a licensed funeral director originally from Spring Valley, MN. She moved to Chicago after having been a surgical technician at the Mayo Clinic to pursue her degree in Mortuary Science from Worsham College. Sandra has been associated with the Smith family since the early 1990s having taken several years off to raise her children, Michael and Elizabeth. Sandra is an active member of many funeral service organizations including the National Funeral Directors Association, Illinois, Ohio, and New Jersey Funeral Directors Associations. Sandra lives with her children in Rosemont and can often be found antique hunting. |
Marlena Jurek - Director
Marlena is a graduate of Chicago City Wide College of mortuary science. She has been a licensed funeral director and embalmer for over 20 years. Marlena keeps busy raising her two children, son, Nathan and, daughter, Parker. In her spare time she enjoys spending time with her kids, riding horses, working out, exercising, and running. |
Erin Connelly - Apprentice Funeral Director
Erin Connelly is originally from Teutopolis, a small town in Central Illinois. She moved to Chicago to attend Worsham College of Mortuary Science. While going to school she began working with Smith-Corcoran and she is now joining our team as an apprentice funeral director. Erin has been enlisted in the Illinois Army National Guard for over 10 years and was a respiratory therapist prior to entering the funeral business. She is a loyal fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and enjoys traveling, music, and crafts. |
Amy Maple - Administrator
Amy is a long time resident of Palatine where she graduated from Palatine High School. She went on to attend the University of Wisconsin at Platteville and received a Bachelor of Science degree in criminal justice in 2012. Amy joins our team as an Administrator. When not working, Amy likes to swim, read mystery novels and weather permitting, enjoys riding her motorcycle. |
Customer Service Representatives
Jeremy Ward left his native Virginia and moved to Chicago in 2008. He soon joined his cousins, the Smiths, in serving the families at Smith-Corcoran. He graduated from Oberlin Conservatory of Music with a Bachelors in Violoncello Performance and from Northwestern University's Bienen School of Music with a Masters in Violoncello Performance and Pedagogy. When he's not at Smith-Corcoran, he is performing with various groups in the Chicagoland area and throughout the United States.

Michael Ingargiola is a member of the St. Robert Bellarmine Parish. He attended Notre Dame College Prep and is currently pursuing a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Nursing at North Park University. Michael is the youngest of his siblings and enjoys spending time with his family as active members of the Societá San Giovanni Bosco SS Crocifisso di Cimmina. He listens to a variety of country music and is a baseball fanatic.

Joseph Nilson has lived in the Sauganash neighborhood for most of his life. He went to Queen of All Saints and Notre Dame High School. He is currently attending Loyola University Chicago and studying software development/computer science. |
