Frank (Francis) J. Kania, 100, was born in Chicago, IL, August 2nd, 1912 to the late Joseph and Catherine (Swiderski) Kania and passed away on August 10th, 2012. He married the late Anne Smreczak on October 30th, 1949. Frank was the loving father of Joette (Bruce) Brown, cherished grandfather of Lindsay and Michelle Brown, loving brother of Eleanor Garber, the late John Kania, the late Ed Kania and the late Sophie Olewinski, dear godfather of Deborah (Terry) Dee, adored uncle of many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews and a true friend to many. Frank was a proud veteran of the Army Air Corps and served in the South Pacific during WWII. One of his proudest moments, was being invited to join the Honor Flight Chicago trip to Washington DC in July 2010. His passion for life carried him to his recent 100th birthday when he was honored by the mayor of Hoffman Estates with a key to the city and a proclamation that August 2nd, 2012 was declared Frank Kania day in the Village. Frank promoted peace in every situation and his ubiquitous silver PT Cruiser (which he drove until turning 98) was adorned with the words “Peace Be with You Always”. Funeral InformationVisitation, Thursday, August 16, 2012, 3-9 PM at Smith-Corcoran Funeral Home, 185 E. Northwest Hwy, Palatine and Friday, August 17, 2012, 9:30 AM until time of Mass at 10:30 AM at Holy Family Catholic Church, 2515 W. Palatine Road, Inverness. Interment will be private at St. Adalbert Cemetery.
