Mrs. Nancy Stevens Mix

July 18, 1930 - February 11, 2010

Nancy Stevens Mix died peacefully on February 11, 2010, at home in Chicago with her family. Nancy was born in Chicago on July 18, 1930 to Morehous and Isabel Stevens. She spent her youth in Elkhart, Indiana and Tucson, Arizona. Nancy attended the Knox School for Girls in Cooperstown, New York, and studied art at Northwestern University and The School of the Art Institute. She worked as a fashion illustrator for the Chicago Tribune. Nancy lived with her husband John in Sauganash for more than 50 years. They were avid butterfly collectors and traveled to many distant rain forests in the practice of their exciting hobby. Nancy assisted her family and the community through her work as a scout leader and as the “Art Lady” at Sauganash School. Nancy was a member of the Sauganash Women’s Club for 46 years and dedicated countless hours to the philanthropic activities supported by the Club. She regularly made toys for patients at Children’s Memorial Hospital. Nancy lived her life with grace and blessed everyone around her through her kind and generous nature. She will be greatly missed. Beloved wife of Bronislaus John Mix, Jr. Loving mother of Katherine (Andrew) McGonigle, Bronislaus John (Diane) Mix, III and William Mix. Cherished grandmother of Madeleine and Emily McGonigle; and Angela and Heidi Reifschneider. Dear sister of the late Katharine Stevens.

Funeral Information

Funeral Tuesday 11:00 am at Smith-Corcoran Funeral Home, 6150 N. Cicero Ave., Chicago. Interment Graceland Cemetery. Visitation Monday 3-9 pm.

Donations Information

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Sauganash Women's Club, 6160 N. Keating Ave., Chicago, IL 60646 would be greatly appreciated.
