Betty Ann “Betzie” Dilhoff, 75 of Rolling Meadows, Illinois, passed away on the morning of April 6th, 2021. Betzie was born July 29th, 1945 in Richmond Hill, New York to Louis and Mary Gfroerer. She attended Plainedge High School and was exceptional in her business classes. Right after high school, she loved working in the Big Apple and was especially fond of being able to walk down 5th Ave. on her lunch break to buy matching pumps and handbags. After moving to Chicago with her family she had a long career at both Hodsco and Wheeling Plumbing where she was known as the most intimidating woman under five foot any of these big construction workers had come in contact with. She married Gerald Dilhoff in 1970 in a Catholic ceremony and was so in love with her groom. The two remained devoted until his passing in 2008. Betzie was a beloved sister to Mary-Lou Bauer, and while the titles vary, was a second mother to Mary-Lou Bauer-Erickson, Roy Erickson, Alyssa Pavlakis (Steven), Andrew Erickson and Adam Erickson. She was also a devoted dog mom to many through the years including Balloo, Buddy, Glory, Pepper, Sasha and many others. Throughout her life, Betzie took in those who were down on their luck and loved them for exactly who they were. She was a fighter, who didn’t take crap from anyone. She well earned the rest she will find with her beloved husband Jerry in heaven. There will be a public visitation (masks required) at Smith Corcoran Funeral Home, 185 E. Northwest Highway Palatine, IL, from 10am -12pm Saturday April 10th followed by the burial in St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Cemetery in Palatine where she will be buried next to her late husband. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations are made in Betzie’s name to the Buddy Foundation of Arlington Heights (https://thebuddyfoundation.org/donate/) where Betzie found many of her cherished dogs over the years. There are a few people that I have been blessed to know in my lifetime that sets the bar to being strong in the face of life's challenges, and Betsey is one of them. Being her hairdresser for the past several years, we would talk about many things. Betsey was a beacon of strength for me. Her ability to speak from the cuff and tell you like it is, made her the most impressionable person to anyone that knew her. Generous, and a true caregiver to animals and those that matter to her, she will be truly missed. I know because I miss her...
