Dr. Conrad Spirrison, age 79. Beloved husband of 56 years to Sophia, nee Vaselakos. Adored father of Evan (Amy) Spirrison and Holly (Nick) Baker. Dear Papou of Connor, Sophie, Emma, Cameron, Mac, and Ellie. Cherished brother of Elena (Anthony Poulos) Savoy and the late James (Pandora) Spirrison and the late George Savoy. Dear son of the late Arnold Spirrison, and the late Christine and Michael Savoy. Fond uncle, cousin, and friend of many.

 

He was a life-long learner and educator, completing several degrees culminating with him earning his Ph.D. in Educational Leadership and Administration from Illinois State University in 1998. Conrad began his career in education as a teacher in Chicago in 1967. His professional accomplishments included several positions such as Assistant Director of Special Education for Tazewell-Mason Counties Special Education Association, Speech & Language Coordinator for Peoria School District 150, and Superintendent of Deer Park School District 82.

 

Conrad was a strong, kind, loving, wise and supportive husband and father. His knowledge and guidance was the foundation of his family. He encouraged everyone to do their best and believed in their ability to be successful. Conrad was proud of his children and grandchildren who he adored.

 

Dr. Spirrison was a member of the North Central Regional Betterment Coalition, Lasalle County Retired Teachers Association, founding father and first President of St. Nectarios Greek Orthodox Church in Palatine, IL. He was a poet who shared his works locally with the Other People’s Poetry group. He was also an avid Chicago Bears and White Sox fan. He enjoyed the freedom and beauty of flight, co-owning his very own 1976 Cessna A185F.

 

Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 16th, 9:30AM, Assumption Greek Orthodox Church, 601 S Central Ave, Chicago, IL 60644, followed by a Funeral Service at 10AM. Interment Elmwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Dr. Conrad Spirrison Memorial Scholarship Fund, at Pilot International Headquarters, 102 Preston Court, Macon, GA 31210 or online at Pilot International Grants & Scholarships Donations.
