Erlinda “Baby” Surla Alban, age 75, passed away peacefully in her sleep on January 8, 2020 after a short battle with cancer. She was born on April 13, 1944 in the Philippines to Marcelino and Socorro Surla. She obtained her Bachelors Degree in Chemical Engineering at the University of Santo Tomas in 1965. She moved to Chicago, Illinois in 1972 with her young daughter, Teresa. It was in Chicago, where she met and married her loving husband, Hector Alban, in 1975, with whom she had two children, Caroline and JohnMarc. She held a variety of jobs over the years, shifting roles from teacher to chemical engineer to social worker, constantly striving to make a better life for her family. Erlinda was a dedicated Mother and Lola. She cherished spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, and used her wonderful cooking as a way to show her love and affection. Erlinda is survived by her devoted husband, Hector, in addition to her adored children, Teresa (Ty) Lane, Caroline (Jerry) Aguilar, and JohnMarc (Tim) Alban; and grandchildren Thor, Skye, Brennan, Cameryn, Trinity, Jacob, and Mateo. Along with siblings Herminia, Edgardo, Gerardo and Roger. She was loved and will be missed dearly.
Visitation will be held at Smith-Corcoran Funeral Home, 6150 N. Cicero Ave, Chicago, IL 60646 on Friday, January 17, 2020 from 3-8pm. There will be a mass at St. Hilary Parish, 5600 N. Fairfield Ave, Chicago, IL 60659 on Saturday, January 18, 2020 at 10am. For more info please call 773-736-3833.
