Mark W. Ables, MD, 65, of Chicago passed away 14 Aug. 2021.
Mark was the loving husband of Karen. Beloved father of Kimberly (Trevor Spangenberg) and Heather (Michael Ozga). He was the son of Grace DuPree and brother to Michael (Kathy) and Lynn. Stepbrother to William (Sandra) and Matthew DuPree. Brother-in-law to Jim and Eleanor Smith, Susan and Steve Burlone, Lori and Dane James, and Peter and Judy Smith. He was an uncle to 20 nieces and nephews.
He was a devoted and compassionate primary care physician for 40 years at Evanston Hospital – NorthShore University Health System. He was a teacher and mentor to countless residents throughout his career. Mark’s knowledge and expertise was shared with many and appreciated by all. He retired in September 2020 and enjoyed spending his days doing projects around the house, watching his garden grow, and feeding the neighborhood birds each morning. He loved his family and looked forward to visits and calls from his girls and their spouses. His daughters were his pride and joy and he always said that their spouses were “their perfect match” (despite Heather marrying a Packer fan). He was the biggest supporter of any soccer team that Trevor played for, the quiet, grounding presence in every room, and the best advisor in any situation. He enjoyed the simple things in life and found nothing better than Friday evening pizza and Manhattan nights with his wife.

Karen, it is an unimaginable sadness and I am lost without words as I found this notice online. I regret having taken his friendship for granted for years. . . it does not seem real that this wonderful and remarkable person is with me and all of you in spirit only. I send my deepest sympathy.
