Carolyn Papai, nee Klein, born July 7, 1941 in New Orleans, LA, passed away Feb. 19, 2006. Carolyn was the beloved daughter of the late Isla Reid Klein and the late Maynard Klein of Ann Arbor Michigan. Alumna of Interlochen Music Camp and Michigan State University, she met her husband of 40 years the late Ray Papai during the Schubert Theater production of The Sound of Music. Her beautiful soprano voice and lovely presence on stage led her to perform in many productions. She sang with the choir at the 1st Presbyterian Church in Palatine. After the birth of her daughters Laurie (John) Larrabee and Karen Batio, she founded the Papai Players, a children’s theater company in 1976. She brought her professional productions to many venues including Ravinia, the Indianapolis Children’s Museum and countless schools and libraries. Her theatre company found a home at the Old Orchard Country Club in Mt. Prospect where she offered both children’s theater and dinner theater for adult entertainment. Later she produced her shows for Cutting Hall in Palatine, where she spent many years entertaining children and adults alike. She mostly enjoyed spending time with her granddaughters Courtney, Jessica and Lizzie.
