Rance Jerome Powers, 82, a longtime Chicago area resident and Army veteran, died peacefully September 7, 2019, surrounded by his family. Born in Chicago on July 11, 1937, Rance had a love of aviation from the time he was a little boy. He served as a helicopter mechanic in the Army and had a 39 year career at United Airlines.

 

He is survived by his wife Wilma Jane, his daughter Laura Thomas of LaGrange, son Jack (Polly) of Palatine and grandchildren Boston and Abbigail Powers, and Elizabeth, Brittany, and Megan Thomas. Rance was predeceased by his sister Mary Jean Farley and brothers Jack Powers, Donald Powers and Thomas Powers. Loving Uncle Buck, friend to many and a proud American.

 

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Alexian Brothers Hospice Residence, 901 Martha Street, Elk Grove Village. A memorial visitation will be held on Sunday, September 15th, 12 PM, Smith-Corcoran Funeral Home, 185 E Northwest Highway, Palatine, until time of Memorial Service at 3 PM.
