Simon "Buddy" O'Donnell

Simon “Buddy” O’Donnell, age 80, of Chicago and more recently Park Ridge. Beloved husband to Margaret, nee Heffernan, for 56 wonderful years. Devoted father to Timothy (Debbie) O’Donnell, Colleen (Brian) Glavanovits, and Kevin (Pam) O’Donnell. Cherished “Papa” to Megan, Kelly, Danny, Erin, Briana, Emily, Isabelle, and Maggie. Dear brother to Patricia Considine, Kathleen O’Donnell, Maryann Matakiewicz, the late Marguerite O’Donnell, the late Lorraine O’Donnell, the late Jeane Czech, and the late Terrance O’Donnell. Preceded in death by parents Simon and Marguerite O’Donnell. Loving uncle, cousin, and brother-in-law to many. Simon was a proud US Air Force veteran. After his military service, he proudly served his community for 31 years in the Chicago Police Department. He also worked for the Cook County Sheriffs office for 10 years. Simon was a founding and active member for 46 years, and former president of The Emerald Society of IL. He was a bagpiper and founding member of the Pipes and Drums of the Emerald Society since 1984. Simon was also an active member of the Knights of Columbus Council 12173. A visitation will be held Wednesday, September 1, 2021 at Smith-Corcoran Funeral Home, 6150 N. Cicero Ave. Chicago IL from 4:00-8:00PM. A mass will be held at St. Paul of the Cross Parish, 320 S. Washington Ave. Park Ridge IL on Thursday, September 2, at 10:00am. Interment to follow at Queen of Heaven Cemetery, Hillside IL. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Chicago Police Memorial Fund, www.cpdmemorial.org
